Inner stillness...

"All true artists, whether they know it
or not, create from a place of no-mind,
from inner stillness.”

Eckhart Tolle

On the journey...

“If you gain a mature companion,  a
fellow traveler, right-living, enlightened
overcoming all dangers go with him,
gratified, mindful. If you don't gain a
mature companion, a fellow traveler,
right-living, enlightened go alone like
 a king renouncing his kingdom, like the
elephant in the Matanga wilds, his herd.”

Dhammapada:
Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

On spontaneous action...

“Spontaneous, true action happens naturally
when there is no "you" checking whether the
action conforms to your idea of what
is best for you.”

Ramesh Balsekar

Words of wisdom...

The only problem with leaving and going
someplace
else is that you take yourself with you.
You take your vibrational habits and patterns
with you.

Finding the gem...

“You should not practice ideas of impermanence, suffering, impurity, and selflessness as though they are real objects like stones or rocks but look instead for the meaning. You should use expedient means in every place and cultivate the ideas of permanence, happiness, and purity for the sake of all beings. If you do this, you will be like the one who sees a gem in the muddied water among the stones and rocks and waits for the water to settle before he skillfully plucks it out. It is the same with cultivating the idea of the self as with permanence, happiness, and purity.”

On beauty...

“People should be beautiful in every way:
in their faces, in the way they dress, in their
thoughts, and in their innermost selves.”

Anton Chekhov

Shantideva...

"In the same way that someone in the midst of a
rough crowd guards a wound with great care,
so in the midst of bad company should one
always guard the wound that is the mind.”

Shantideva, "Bodhicaryavatara"

Benefits of altruism

“If you try to subdue your selfish motives—anger and so forth—and develop more kindness and compassion for others, ultimately you yourself will benefit more than you would otherwise. So sometimes I say that the wise selfish person should practice this way. Foolish selfish people are always thinking of themselves, and the result is negative. Wise selfish people think of others, help others as much as they can, and the result is that they too receive benefit.”
HH The 14th Dalai Lama

Childhood by David Bates

Childhood, sweet and sunny childhood,
With its careless, thoughtless air,
Like the verdant, tangled wildwood,
Wants the training hand of care.

See it springing all around us --
Glad to know, and quick to learn;
Asking questions that confound us;
Teaching lessons in its turn.

Who loves not its joyous revel,
Leaping lightly on the lawn,
Up the knoll, along the level,
Free and graceful as a fawn?

Let it revel; it is nature
Giving to the little dears
Strength of limb, and healthful features,
For the toil of coming years.

He who checks a child with terror,
Stops its play, and stills its song,
Not alone commits an error,
But a great and moral wrong.

Give it play, and never fear it --
Active life is no defect;
Never, never break its spirit --
Curb it only to direct.

Would you dam the flowing river,
Thinking it would cease to flow?
Onward it must go forever --
Better teach it where to go.

Childhood is a fountain welling,
Trace its channel in the sand,
And its currents, spreading, swelling,
Will revive the withered land.

Childhood is the vernal season;
Trim and train the tender shoot;
Love is to the coming reason,
As the blossom to the fruit.

Tender twigs are bent and folded --
Art to nature beauty lends;
Childhood easily is moulded;
Manhood breaks, but seldom bends.

White Horses

As I gaze out to sea and sit on burning sand
Thoughts leaving the turmoil of suffering land
I contemplate the eternal movement of space
A deconstructed flow of beauty forms and grace

Vision's forms breathed to life, as dreams too
I see Ego's endless play through and through
From the delicate white curtain of magical mist
Crouching, ever ready it attempts a final twist
Two white proud horses appear and stand
I see their hooves poised on ever shifting sand

In an instant these creations cease, all is still
Such is the power of Mind's focused will
and I come home to the all abiding calm,
The only truly eternal balm.

Myriad images:
faces, moments, feelings rise and die,
Landscapes, colours, pictures fleeting by.
Valley of the mind, meadow of the heart,
Endless waves in motion, the senses part
All that shimmers is but a dream,
From which we've yet to wean
Retreating from this endless show
Is the only place there is to know
It is here, it is now, it is clear
The freedom path to which to steer
Therein all is peace, bliss, complete
No shifting sands beneath our feet
Impossible to grasp, recount or define
is the true being of our Eternal Mind.

Nature of all...

“I pervade the entire universe in my unmanifested form.
All creatures find their existence in me, but I am not limited by them.
Behold my divine mystery! These creatures do not really dwell in me,
and though I bring them forth and support them, I am not confined
within them. They move in me as the winds move in every direction in space.”

Bhagavad Gita

Pain cannot feed on joy.

Drunk with joy...

“Having drunk the sweetness of solitude and also the sweetness of tranquility, one becomes free from fear and wrongdoing while drinking the sweetness of the joy of truth.”
