My Wage
I bargained with life for a penny,
And life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;
For life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of life,
Life would have paid.

Kind Words
"A little word in kindness spoken,
A motion or a tear,
Has often healed the heart that's broken,
And made a friend sincere.
A word - a look - has crushed to earth
Full many a budding flower,
Which, had a smile but owned its birth,
Would bless life's darkest hour.
Then deem it not an idle thing,
A pleasant word to speak;
The face you wear, the thoughts
you bring,
A heart may heal or break."

Single thought...
"When it becomes a part of every man's thinking
that a single thought can change the polarity of
our entire body toward either life or death - and
can likewise change its entire chemistry toward
increasing alkalinity or acidity to strengthen it
or weaken it - or can change the shape of every
corpuscle of matter in the entire body in the
direction of either growth or decay - then the
medical profession will radically change both
its principles and its practices with the ailment
of bodies."

Making Life Worth While
Every soul that touches yours,
Be it the slightest contact
Get there from some good;
Some little grace; one kindly
thought; One aspiration
yet unfelt;
One bit of courage for the
darkening sky;
One gleam of faith
To brave the thickening ills of life;
One glimpse of brighter skies
To make this life worthwhile
And heaven a surer heritage.
George Eliot
