Long is the road to attainment
and long is the road of ignorance.
Long is the process of cyclical suffering
for those who are immature in their understanding of the mind.
If bereft of good company,
walk down the path of Dharma all by oneself.
Not taking the company of the immature
as an absolute necessity,
rid one's mind of all of their
socially driven conceptions of what
this incarnation is meant for.
Not satisfied with their obsessions,
satisfy oneself by taking
the long road to attainment.
The immature, even though fully equipped
with all of the various branches of knowledge,
are as foolish as those who have no knowledge at all,
for the immature, despite having the companionship
of the wise, cannot tell the difference
between what is Dharmic and what is of an illusory nature.
The wise, who are well versed in experience,
can lead one down the gates of internal awareness
in as much time as it takes to meditate.
Having no real conception of what is Dharma,
the immature act against their own liberation
from the cycle of suffering,
for their deeds speak louder than words.
Selfishly attached to being selfish,
the immature continue to dig their own graves
in the sands of forgetfulness.
Though they may perform all sorts of pious deeds
in the name of the Accomplished Ones,
fasting for months on end without interruption,
their company is to be avoided for the company of One who Knows.
Wanting the respect of fellow monks and disciplined beings,
the immature flaunt their knowledge and good deeds
only to increase their already burdensome level of selfishness.
Proudly looking down at the wise as the immature,
those who are bewildered by Mara's grip
will be bewildered so long as they think
they are great practitioners of the Dharma.
Choosing Buddhahood over illusion,
remember who One is and is not.
