On death....

Giovanni Falcone; 18 May 1939 – 23 May 1992 - was an Italian judge who spent most of his professional life trying to overthrow the power of the Sicilian Mafia that had become a state unto itself. He was killed by the mafia in Sicily in May 1992 with the implicit contribution and betrayal by members of the Italian government state apparatus.

Italy (like Colombia, Mexico, Russia etc etc etc) has seen many martyrs in the course of attempting justice that have included honorable men and women from all professions that were abandoned by a weak cowardly corrupt and complicit state. Their only fault: a scrupulous integrity and commitment to law.
