How easy to forget....
WW2 and the liberation of Europe from Fascism would not have been possible (or would have taken significantly longer with more allied casualties) without the Russian intervention led by Marshal Zhukov. This war cost Russia around 27 million lives, military and civilian. Most objective military analysts agree on this conclusion, and in fact the Russians were the first to enter into and liberate Berlin.
Regrettably our western leaders, in recent years, have never really acknowledged this fact publicly and most people have no idea of this today, attributing the victory to the US and Britain. After all small minds and small hearts, acting as heroes eventually burn in the trash can of history.
So out of respect for all those that passed saving Europe from Nazism (well we thought it had gone away) we say thank you and wish you a happy hassle free celebration.
